PRINCESS OBITUARY

SEPTEMBER 11, 2006 TO JUNE 29, 2024

On the morning of June 29, 2024, Princess Anne Whitby passed away peacefully due to old age at Betty Baugh’s Animal Clinic. Princess was 17 years and nine months old. She is survived by her pet guardian (mother) Hope, and she was preceded in death by her pet siblings:  Tiger Lilly (cat), Bella (cat), and Birdy (parakeet). Princess was well known in the West End of Richmond as she spent most of her life as the mascot, or shop dog, of Village Exxon from August 2007 to February 2023. During that time, she joyfully greeted customers, was the highlight of the station’s newsletter, and, often, had people drop in just to visit or take photos of her sunning in the window. Princess was Hope’s constant and faithful companion. She enjoyed going on long car rides, sitting on the window perch in Hope’s reading and writing room, being held on the couch while watching TV, posing for 16 Christmas card photos, and, before arthritis settled into her hips, Princess loved taking long walks around Richmond, especially around the Westhampton Lake at University of Richmond and taking in the river view at Hollywood Cemetery. Princess had a sweet disposition and truly brightened every room she was in; however, when she wanted a doggie treat, and if one wasn’t readily available, she would get adorably grumpy. The first year of Princess’s life did not treat her kind, but when she was rescued by Hope, she lived her following years like a Queen and was the rainbow after every storm. Princess was a mighty little Chihuahua with a “big dog” personality whose impact will be forever felt by those who love her dearly. Her passing has left an unfillable hole in Hope’s heart. Princess will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread gently at the places she loved, and, amongst the lavender and roses.
